EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C will be the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. In addition to providing the UK with safe, secure and low carbon electricity for the future, Hinkley Point C  represents an incredible long term employment and skills opportunity for the young people of Somerset. With some 25,000 employment opportunities available throughout construction, the project is also helping the UK to overcome a recognised skills gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
EDF Energy has invested almost £15 million into in local colleges, training and education programmes to ensure we equip tomorrow’s workforce with the right skills. Our new nuclear power station will provide low carbon electricity for 60 years – this means that our workforce of the future is in Somerset’s schools and colleges today! Apprentices will also form a core part of our future workforce and we have an aspiration to create 1,000 new apprenticeships over the course of the project.
