Gone are the days when Apprenticeship opportunities were open only for school leavers. If you have ever felt like you’ve missed your chance at your dream career or perhaps wish you’d done things differently, then you will not want to miss what an Apprenticeship could do for you.
The governments drive in recent years to make Apprenticeships an equal alternative to University has been remarkable, setting a phenomenal target of 3 million Apprenticeship starts by 2020 and for 10% of 16-18 year olds to start an Apprenticeship.
But why only 16-18 year olds? Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for anyone of any age and all abilities. The beauty of Apprenticeships are they aren’t open to only the school leaver market. They are open to anyone aged 16 and over. Meaning they are a great option not only for school leavers but returning to work parents, those made redundant or Career changers, the possibilities are endless!
An Apprenticeship allows you to drive that change of direction whilst being able to keep to your commitments of adult life by creating the opportunity for you to study a new qualification- sometimes up to degree level – whilst earning.
In 2015, the government announced in their Apprenticeship Vision document that not only would they create 3 Million Apprenticeships by 2020, they would also in April 2017 be introducing the Apprenticeship levy – this now means that any organisation, private or public will have to pay 0.5% of their pay bill into the Apprenticeship Levy fund only being able to benefit from this by investing in their staff. Truly cementing the Governments commitment to Apprenticeships.
The NHS in recent years have used Apprenticeships to transform the way they recruit with Apprentices being in a variety of roles from front desk at reception to Maternity and Paediatric Support assistants. New to the NHS however in September 2017, was the introduction of Nursing Degree Apprenticeships, meaning you can become a fully qualified nurse through an Apprenticeship without paying a penny for your degree and earning, all at the same time!
So if you ever dreamt of becoming a Nurse, a solicitor or a Jockey there is an Apprenticeship for you! Have no fear however, if being a Pilot was your child hood dream, because there is even an Apprenticeship standard in development for that too!
